Adults, Kids—There are lots of ways to learn and enjoy music!
We have many opportunities to expand your musical mastery at Wintergrass—from music basics, to songwriting tips from pros, to intensives diving deep into a topic, we have music education for all ages.
Intensive workshops are our most in-depth workshops at Wintergrass. Dive deep into a specific instrument like guitar, banjo or nyckelharpa and learn what makes the greats great. These courses are limited to 15 adult students each, require paid registration and fill up quickly.
Our workshop offerings range from instrument basics, to vocal and harmony training, to groove and feel workshops, to audio production techniques. Festival workshops are included in the price of your festival ticket and are open to festival goers only.
Many parents have asked if kids are allowed at Wintergrass. The short answer is, of course, yes. We are following area school district protocols for elementary and younger students. Like their parents, kids will wear masks while at the festival. That said, out of an abundance of caution we are adjusting youth education offerings this year.
We’re excited to introduce Flashgrass – two-hour, age specific sessions happening on Thursday and Friday. Students will learn a tune, a dance and receive instruction on playing one or more instruments. Beloved teachers including Joe Craven, Charmaine Slaven, Tom Petersen, Beth Fortune and others will work their magic each morning with second to fourth grade students, and again in the afternoon with fifth through eighth grade students. Each cohort will present a short performance at the end of their sessions on Friday. Each group will be limited to 25 students, so there will be plenty of room for social distancing and fun.
