Adults, Kids — There are lots of ways to learn
and enjoy music!
We have many opportunities to expand your musical mastery at Wintergrass.
From music basics, to songwriting tips from pros, to intensives diving deep into a topic, we have music education for all ages.
Intensive workshops are our most in-depth workshops at Wintergrass. Dive deep into a specific instrument like guitar, banjo or nyckelharpa and learn what makes the greats great. These courses are limited to 15 adult students each, require paid registration and fill up quickly.
People have asked us for years: Why can’t there be a “Camp” at Wintergrass where “beginner” grown-ups can go beyond the regular workshop format and have fun and games and wall-to-wall instruction? A safe environment for exploring music, building a circle of friends, and getting a little silly is what the Youth Academy has always been about, and now Wintergrass extends this to adults! Our new Wintergrass Never-Too-Late Day Camp takes place on Saturday, and requires a separate paid registration.

Our workshop offerings range from instrument basics, to vocal and harmony training, to groove and feel workshops, to audio production techniques. Festival workshops are included in the price of your festival ticket and are open to festival goers only.

Wintergrass strives to be a kid-friendly event. Kids under 12 are always free. In addition to general free-range happiness for kids, we also offer a multitude of directed, age-appropriate music education programs.
Pintgrass welcomes pre-school kids for two half days of instruction. The Youth Academy gives two full days of instruction for kids in second to eighth grade. This year, students will be grouped into grade level cohorts with second through fourth graders and then fifth through eighth graders working together. High school students have two very different programs to choose from. MOX – Musicians Owning Excellence is a long day of instruction focused on songwriting, music and event production and jamming. The newly expanded Youth Orchestra programs has four different ways to dive in over three days, starting on Friday. We promise to wear out your kids.
