KRISTEN GRAINER & TRUE NORTH

KRISTEN GRAINGER & TRUE NORTH

Fronted by singer-songwriter Kristen Grainger, the folk-bluegrass powerhouse includes Dan Wetzel, guitar; octave mandolin, vocals; Martin Stevens, mandolin, octave mandolin, fiddle, vocals; and Josh Adkins, bass, vocals.

A songwriter whose star is rising, Kristen was named, alongside Brandi Carlile and Dolly Parton, one of the Women Who Wrote Our 2020 Soundtrack by The Bluegrass Situation. She won the 2020 USA Songwriting Competition (folk), and she has won or been a finalist in national songwriting contests at Telluride Bluegrass Festival (CO), MereFest (NC), Wildflower Music Festival (TX), and Kerrville Folk Festival (TX).

She and Dan co-wrote the 2010 Wintergrass song contest winner, It’s A Hard Place to Suffer and That Really Gets Me Down, their tribute to the festival’s new home in Bellevue.

The band’s newest release, Ghost Tattoo, was #2 on Folk Alliance International’s Top Albums of 2020 and #12 on Folk Alley’s Listeners Choice Top 20 Albums of 2020, hitting #1 on FAI folk radio charts for both albums and singles. Learn more at truenorthband.com.
